The 5 Best Electric Beach Cruiser Bikes in 2024 | Reviews & Ratings (2024)

Bikes that are referred to as simply Cruisers, or sometimes Beach Cruisers, are designed to be comfortable, easy and fun.

They don’t need to have the technical specification that some endurance road bikes or electric mountain bikes do. They are not meant for tackling rough terrain, long distances and lots of steep ascents.

These bikes are designed with straight forward commutes and relaxing level surface cycles in mind.

Below, we’ll walk through our top 5 reviews of the best electric beach cruisers.

Why Beach Cruisers are the Perfect eBike

If you are newbie cyclist or just new to e-bikes altogether, then an e-Cruiser could be the perfect choice for you.

Providing you are not an adrenaline junkie that wants to push yourself to the limit, these bikes are versatile, comfortable and simple to use.

If you plan to take leisurely rides along country lanes, or you are lucky to have a wide beach promenade or a straight forward cycle as a commuter, then opting to purchase an electric cruiser could be a great choice.

For one thing, they are generally less expensive than their multi-geared, high powered e-mtb or road racing siblings. They are also a lot easier to use as their interface and power options are a lot more straightforward.

They have been developed with comfort in mind and the saddle, frame shape and handlebars are all designed to make your upright ride as relaxing as possible.

The frames are usually larger and heavier and are designed with stability in mind.

Their tires can often be wider, and more air-cushioned, and their handlebars tend to be positioned higher and closer to the rider.

The pedals are positioned to make it easy to stop and rest too — none of this balancing on your tiptoes or holding the bike over at an angle.

The benefits of an electric cruiser over a non-powered version is that if you do come across a bit of an incline, or you are tired after a long day at work, the motor can give that extra boost and save you overexerting yourself.

Plus there is nothing worse than turning up for the start of a day at work, covered in sweat!

When Not to Opt for an Electric Cruiser

If you plan to be doing a lot of off-roading, distance cycling, long commutes or you live or cycle in a very hilly region, then this would probably not be the best choice of e-bike to select. You would be better opting for a specific road or mountain e-bike.

If you are an advanced electric bike enthusiast, this simplicity and lack of versatility would likely frustrate you.

They are not designed for super-fast speeds or jumps in acceleration, and their heavier frames also mean that they are not as easy to maneuver or lift.

If you have to carry your bike up flights of stairs to an apartment or get it on a roof rack, it could be a significant effort!

All of the bikes we have reviewed weigh over 20kg. Check out our reviews of lightweight e-bikes if you are looking for something less bulky.

Be Aware of the Electric Bike Classes

Don’t forget to check the Class of the electric cruiser bike you are considering too. The laws vary depending on the country you are in. In Europe, e-bikes are generally not allowed to go above 15mph on their power-assist modes. In the United States, they can go up to 28mph. Within the country, however, some states don’t conform to the norm.

Check out the People For Bikes website, which is a handy resource for gaining a better understanding of these, sometimes nuanced, regulations.

In general, the Classes are broken down as follows within the United States:

Class 1 e-bikes

  • Max speed of 20mph
  • Pedal-assist motor only
  • In some areas, the motor can be no bigger than 250w
  • Generally no restrictions on where they can be used in the US

Class 2 e-bikes

  • Max speed of 20mph
  • Pedal-assist mode or thumb throttle function
  • Motor no greater than 750w

Class 3 e-bikes

  • Max speed 28mph (often referred to as speed pedelecs)
  • Pedal-assist function only
  • Motor no greater than 750w
  • There are restrictions in certain States on where these can be used – always check

Reviews of the Best Electric Beach Cruiser eBikes

We have selected five different electric powered beach cruisers to review. Each has its own specific advantages in terms of features, usability and performance. Some of the key criteria we looked at when we were reviewing include:

  • Value for money – Even the best electric bikes can vary significantly in their pricing. We look at a range of budgets and want to make sure that they are offering the best value for their price bracket
  • Motor efficiency – We compare the power, efficiency and level of smoothness of the motors.
  • Battery efficiency – We compare the batteries in terms of their efficiency, power and charging speeds
  • Overall performance – How do the bikes cope on the ascents and descents? What is the riding experience like, what is their suspension like? What is their weight capacity?
  • Reputation – How does the brand stack up against its competitors. Are they known for producing robust, high performing e-bikes?
The 5 Best Electric Beach Cruiser Bikes in 2024 | Reviews & Ratings (7)

If you are looking for an affordable entry-level cruiser with decent potential and power, you can’t really go wrong with the Long Beach Cruiser XL 500 from Big Cat. The frame is very stable, robust and balanced, the ride is comfortable, and it offers good value for money.

Specs

Type of BikeClass 2
Motor500w geared rear hub motor
BatteryLithium-Ion 48V12Ah
Max Speed20 mph
Max Distance30 miles
BrakesMechanical Disc Brakes F/R
Charging Time6 hours
Weight63 lbs
Drive TrainShimano Acera 7 Gear
Price$1,040

What We Loved

This bike from Big Cat provides a really comfortable riding experience. It has a front suspension fork, a comfortable padded saddle, and four-inch wide over-sized tires that are perfect for riding on sand too.

It has a rear rack and front basket already included, and these are handy for additional storage. The generous 295lb maximum weight capacity means you don’t have to worry about filling them up with heavy supplies either.

This model is an upgrade on their previous version, and it’s nice it now has a 500w motor that helps offer additional power for tackling steep hills or sandy surfaces.

With a removable battery pack, you have more flexibility with regards to how and where you recharge. Plus, taking it out makes the bike a little lighter if you have to put it on a car rack or lift it up stairs – cruisers don’t tend to be the lightest types of electric bikes.

Why it Might Not Work For You

As an affordable model, you can’t expect the Big Cat Long Beach Cruiser to have the highest specification.

The mechanical disc brakes aren’t as responsive as hydraulic ones would be, but, given this bike isn’t designed for technical, high-speed riding, they should be more than sufficient.

When the battery is still attached to the bike, it’s not the lightest model, and this can make it cumbersome if you have to use it without power assist or when you have to lift it.

There is only one frame size available too, and tall riders may find it doesn’t offer the most comfortable riding experience for them.

Verdict

The Big Cat Long Beach Cruiser offers a comfortable, smooth ride and decent power unless you do a lot of hill riding. It’s a good value for money, entry-level option.

BEST FOLDABLE CRUISER

#2. Emojo Ram

The most expensive electric cruiser bike on this list, the Emojo Ram has plenty of power and ensures you get a comfortable ride. It stands out because of its folding capabilities.

Specs

Type of BikeClass 2
Motor750-watt electric motor, 48V
Battery48V/10.4Ah L-Ion
Max Speed20 mph
Max Distance30 miles
BrakesTektro Disc brakes
Charging Time6 hours
Weight55 lbs
Drive TrainShimano 7-speed
Price$1,799

What We Loved

The Emojo Ram shares a lot of qualities with the Big Cat Long Cruiser. It stands out, though, as it has a more powerful 750w motor and it’s also possible to fold it down to make it easier to transport or store. Plus, it’s one of the lighter models we’ve reviewed, at just 55lbs – so not too tricky to lift into the trunk of the car.

The extra power will be a distinct advantage if you live in an area with a lot of hills, you are a heavier rider, or you ride it on sand.

This model also has front suspension and wide four-inch tires that help ensure a comfortable and smooth riding experience.

Why it Might Not Work For You

The Emojo Ram is the most expensive of all those we’ve reviewed. Of course, you’re paying for the privilege of being able to fold the bike down. But it’s a lot of money for a bike that still only has mechanical disc brakes and doesn’t have a greater range capacity than the Big Cat model, for example.

Because it’s a folding bike, it doesn’t look as sleek or as streamlined as some other cruisers.

Verdict

You’re paying extra for the folding design of the Emojo Ram. If you don’t need your bike to collapse down, you might not need to pay as much to get a bike with similar general specifications.

CRUISER THAT GOES THE DISTANCE

#3. Ancheer Cruiser

The 5 Best Electric Beach Cruiser Bikes in 2024 | Reviews & Ratings (9)

If you want to keep riding for the whole day, the Ancheer model with its generous range capacity may be a Cruiser that appeals.

Specs

Type of BikeClass 2
Motor36V 250W high speed brushless gear motor
Battery36V 12.5Ah Lithium Ion Battery
Max Speed19 mph
Max Distanceup to 35miles (throttle mode) and up to 45miles (pedal assist mode)
BrakesFront and rear disc brakes
Charging Time6-8 hours
Weight50 lbs
Drive Train6 Speed Gears
Price$819

What We Loved

In terms of value for money, the Ancheer model ticks a lot of boxes. It’s the lightest of all the bikes we’ve reviewed. For an inexpensive cruiser to come in at just 50lbs, that’s pretty impressive.

It also comes into its own in terms of how far it can take you. It’s possible to get as much as 40 miles riding on one charge.

Why it Might Not Work For You

It’s not really surprising that when you get a bike for under $1,000, you have to expect it will have some limitations.

Probably the biggest of those with the Ancheer Cruiser is the fact that it only has a 250w motor. It really isn’t capable of handling hills, and its performance will be impacted by heavier riders too.

This model doesn’t have the suspension or fat tires that the Big Cat or Emojo do. You won’t get such a comfortable riding experience, and it isn’t designed for taking onto sand.

Verdict

If you are on a limited budget or are looking for a more generous range, the Ancheer Cruiser could be worth considering. Just don’t expect it to take you anywhere fast, and hills are going to be a serious challenge with the small 250w motor.

GREAT FAT TIRE CRUISER

#4. Ecotric Hammer

The 5 Best Electric Beach Cruiser Bikes in 2024 | Reviews & Ratings (10)

The vintage-inspired Ecotric Hammer looks good and is fast, powerful and comfortable.

Specs

Type of BikeClass 2
MotorRear Hub 48V 1000W
Battery48v 13AH Removable
Max Speed25 mph
Max Distance35 miles
BrakesTektro Novela Mechanical Disc
Charging Time6-8 hours
Weight73 lbs
Drive TrainShimano 7 Speed
Price$1,479

What We Loved

The Ecotric Hammer has a lot going for it. For one thing, it’s the most powerful and fastest of all the electric cruisers we’ve reviewed.

With a 1000w motor, it packs a real punch when it comes to acceleration, and it can take you up to an impressive 25mph.

Even when riding close to the top speeds, you’re in for a comfortable ride. It has a front suspension fork, the seat post has additional suspension, and the fat tires are four inches wide. These tires also mean you can ride on sand and snow with ease too.

Plus, the bike has a cool vintage/retro-inspired look that will appeal to some riders.

Why it Might Not Work For You

The Ecotric is one of the more expensive cruisers we have reviewed, but it still only has mechanical disc brakes rather than the more responsive hydraulic brakes.

Plus, it’s the heaviest of the bunch. Coming in at a whooping 73lbs, it isn’t going to be easy to move around when the motor isn’t powering it!

Verdict

Fast, powerful and comfortable – the Ecotric Hammer has a lot going for it, but it does come with a more expensive price tag.

COMFORTABLE BEGINNER OPTION

#5. Nakto Cruiser

The 5 Best Electric Beach Cruiser Bikes in 2024 | Reviews & Ratings (11)

For individuals looking for a starter e-bike on a very limited budget, the Nakto Cruiser could be a potential option.

Specs

Type of BikeClass 2
Motor250W rear geared hub motor
Battery36V 10Ah
Max Speed20 mph
Max Distance15-30 miles
BrakesFront V-brakes, rear drum brake
Charging Time6 hours
Weight70 lbs
Drive TrainShimano 6 Speed Gear

What We Loved

It’s rare to find electric bikes at this price point. You get that with the Nakto and, while it does come with some compromises, it offers surprising value for money.

It might be a no-frills option that isn’t going anywhere fast, but it is practical and comfortable.

It still comes with a front suspension fork to better absorb any bumps in the road, and it has lots of handy integrated accessories. There’s a front basket, a rear wheel rack, a kickstand and rear fenders.

Why it Might Not Work For You

Of course, when you buy an eBike for under $1000, you can’t expect too much. This bike doesn’t have the high spec or finish of some of the more expensive models, and you can’t expect it to have the same longevity either.

Plus, the 250w motor is pretty piddling, and it will struggle on any sort of hill, especially if you have the basket and rear rack laden with heavy items.

It’s also another heavy model. Weighing 70lbs, it isn’t going to be easy to lift up and down stairs or onto public transport.

You don’t get fat tires on this bike. This, combined with the lack of power in the motor, means it really is best suited to flat, smooth road surfaces.

Verdict

For someone looking for an entry-level electric bike on a budget, the Nakto may appeal providing you don’t live somewhere hilly, and you aren’t looking for punchy acceleration and power.
