It was a close race, with Flo’s Folly trailing for the first 550 yards before making a late charge on the outside to overtake the leaders. Going into the final turn, Flo’s Folly was still behind but gained ground rapidly, sweeping past the pack to cross the finish line first by 1.5 lengths.

The race favorite, Run Rocket Run, went out to an early lead but faded in the stretch, finishing fifth. Flo’s Folly paid $12.60 to win for his backers. It was the first career win for the 2-year-old pup after four consecutive second place finishes. Trainer John Smith was ecstatic, “We knew Flo’s Folly had the speed, he just needed racing luck and today he got it.”

After the race, jockey Jamie Jones said the key was timing Flo’s Folly’s move perfectly. “We hugged the rail around the first turn to save ground then swung wide on the backstretch to start our run. Flo saw daylight and just exploded, he ran a tremendous race.” It was an impressive performance by the young dog who looks to have a bright future.

In the seventh race tonight at Wheeling Island, it was Flashy Dasher who took home the win. The 4-year-old brindle dog raced to victory with a fast final time of 21.456 seconds. Flashy Dasher started strong out of box 2 and took an early lead going into the first turn. He held onto the lead down the backstretch as Flying Fury made a late charge coming around turn 3. But Flashy Dasher had just enough left in the tank to hold on, nosing out Flying Fury at the finish line to secure the win.

Flying Fury ended up second after making that valiant attempt to catch Flashy Dasher in the homestretch. She finished just a head behind with a final time of 21.789. Rounding out the trifecta in third was Lucky Ringer who closed well late but couldn’t get to the front two. It was an exciting finish to watch these talented greyhounds battle down the stretch. In the end, Flashy Dasher showed his closing speed to earn the victory.

In the 8th race today at the Wheeling dog track, the winning greyhound was Lightning Bolt with a winning time of 29.456 seconds (source). Lightning Bolt started strong out of the gate in box 4 and took an early lead going into the first turn. Down the backstretch, Lightning Bolt began to pull away from the pack as the other dogs battled for second place. Going into the final turn, Lightning Bolt had a commanding 5 length lead over the rest of the field. Despite a late charge from Flash Gordon in box 2, Lightning Bolt was able to hang on for the victory by 1 1/2 lengths.

The race featured an exciting duel for second place between Flash Gordon and Quick Silver in boxes 2 and 5. Flash Gordon made a bold inside move coming out of the final turn to edge out Quick Silver at the finish line. While Lightning Bolt dominated the race, the battle for second made for an entertaining race with some close finishes.
